At Hanson Medical and Dental Centre we provide the following Dental Services
This field covers such procedures as tooth removal, wisdom tooth extraction and gum surgeries, handled by our professional and caring dentists at Hanson Medical and Dental Centre.
Root canal treatment is a procedure aimed to save a tooth that has been heavily damaged due to decay, disease or injury, and which would be otherwise indicated for extraction.
A root canal treatment involves removing the pulp of the tooth and filling the empty space or canal with especial materials. The tooth can then be kept and continues to be functional.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and it should feel no different from having a filling. However, it may take 2 to 3 sessions before the dentist is able to complete it.
Generally, a tooth with root canal treatment should be protected with a full crown or cap to prevent cracks or fractures. Root canal treatments then become very successful in most cases.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices and can only be fitted by a dentist. They are cemented onto existing teeth or implant.
Commonly known as a “cap”, Crowns cover the existing damaged tooth to add strength or to improve the appearance, shape or ailment of the tooth. Crowns can be made from both porcelain or ceramic and are coloured to match your existing teeth.
A Crown can assist to:
replace large fillings where there isn’t enough of the natural tooth remaining
protect a weak tooth from fracturing
assist when a bridge is attached
cover dental implants
cover discoloured or a poorly shaped tooth
cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
A Bridge may be recommended if one or more teeth are missing. Gaps by missing teeth, over time, cause the surrounding teeth to rotate and shift into the empty spaces which can lead to other dental and health issues. A bridge spans the space where the teeth are missing and is cemented to the surrounding teeth. A replacement tooth called a pontic is attached to the crown. Bridges can be made from a choice of materials and the friendly team at Hanson Medical and Dental centre will assess your current condition and advise the best material based on function and/or aesthetics.
Generally, two appointments is required for Crowns and Bridges. An impression will be made at your first appointment and a temporary crown placed. The impression is sent to the dental laboratory who will custom make the device based on your specifications.
Dental implants are metal posts to replace a missing tooth and are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum. The replacement tooth is then inserted once the dental implant is in place.
Inserting dental implants requires a team effort due to the complex nature.
As a guide, most people with healthy gums and sufficient bone (to anchor implants in the jaw) are suitable candidates for dental implants, however, this needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Anti Snoring Devices
Many people experience snoring, which is not only disruptive to their sleep, but also their partner or families sleep. However this is something that the Hanson Medical and Dental Centre can help.
When a person is sleeping and a blockage presents in their throat (often the tongue resting in an abnormal position) this can cause the soft tissues within the throat to vibrate, causing the sound that we refer to as snoring. Subsequently, this restricts the oxygen through to your brain. When your body recognises that your brain is not receiving sufficient oxygen, it causes a spasm in your body, waking you up to resume normal breathing before returning to sleep. This process can often occur multiple times in a single night, without us even realising. This results in symptoms such as snoring, feelings of fatigue and waking in the morning or during the night very thirsty.
At Hanson Medical and Dental Centre we can help you to solve this problem with variety of devices which suit your specific needs and issue
